ISME wants public sector job cuts

Small business group ISME has called on the Government to scrap the second phase of benchmarking for public sector pay.

In its pre-budget submission, it says benchmarking should be replaced with performance related public service pay, while the number of workers should be cut by 6,000.

ISME also wants tax credits and standard rate bands adjusted to reflect inflation, and a double tax credit for small business investment in research and development and training.

ISME also says owner-managed businesses should be given a fee 'for administration o the tax collection system' by way of a deduction of 4% from their PAYE/PRSI and VAT monthly payments.

The body wants a 'prudent' approach to spending and no increases in indirect taxes.
