The euro moved above $1.28 against the US dollar today, its highest level since it hit a record above $1.29 in February.
Analysts said the latest rise was driven by worries about the US current account and budget deficits, and uncertainty about the outcome of the US presidential election.
The euro was at $1.2823 by mid-morning, up more than 1% on the day, though it later dropped back to just above $1.28 in late evening trading.
