Anglo Irish Bank has appointed David Drumm as chief executive designate to replace current chief Sean FitzPatrick following his retirement in January next.
Drumm is currently head of banking in Dublin and the US.
Anglo Chairman Peter Murray said: 'We are delighted to announce that David will lead the Bank over the coming years and look forward to continued strong performance under his stewardship.'
Drumm is 37 and is a member of both the Strategic Management Board and the Executive Management Board at Anglo.
He is a chartered accountant and joined the Bank in 1993 after a number of years in the venture capital industry.
Shares in Anglo Irish Bank closed down 33 cent t0 €14.82 in Dublin.
