Europe's biggest low-cost airline Ryanair said today that it would launch inflight entertainment in November, which it expects to lift its revenues by at least €14m a year.
'We expect to make enormous sums of money from this,' Chief Executive Michael O'Leary told a conference in London.
Ryanair said the system will be trialled initially on five Stansted based aircraft from November. If successful, it will gradually be rolled out across the airline's entire fleet over the winter.
The acquisition of the APS inflight entertainment system - subject to board approval - will give passengers the chance to see movies, chart videos, cartoons and sitcoms on board for a fee of €7 per flight.
Meanwhile, the airline also announced this morning that it is to start flying on four new routes from London Stansted to Spain and Portugal.
A new route from London Stansted to Valencia will commence on November 2, while the airline will start flying from Stansted to Almeria and Porto from January 19. A new route from the UK base to Seville will also begin on February 25.
This brings to 78 the number of routes flown by Ryanair from London Stansted.
Ryanair's Chief Executive Michael O'Leary said he expects the airline to carry over four million passengers on its routes to Spain. Next year the airline expects to see that figure rise to 5.5 million.
