Average industrial earnings up 4.3%

The average weekly earnings of industrial workers in all industries increased by 4.3%, according to preliminary estimates of industrial earnings for June 2004.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show that industrial hourly earnings rose by 4.4% while average hours worked remained unchanged for June 2004 compared to the same time last year.

The CSO also said that industrial employment fell by 6,300 to 243,700 in June 2004 from June 2003. Between March and June 2004, there was a seasonally adjusted increase of 1,400 in industrial employment.
