EUjet opts out of Shannon-Dublin

Shannon-based airline EUjet has confirmed that it will not be going ahead with its scheduled service on the Shannon-Dublin route.

A statement from the company said its decision to launch the Shannon-Dublin route was taken on the understanding that Aer Lingus did not plan to continue operating this route. EUjet said it understood this was not now the case.

CEO PJ McGoldrick said the company had no intention of launching a service which would not be sustainable, but he reiterated its commitment to Shannon.

The company still plans to launch routes from Shannon to Faro, Malaga, Murcia and Geneva, adding that its pre-bookings were ahead of target. It will also bring forward the start of its service from Shannon to Kent International Airport to September 24.

Earlier this month EUjet launched two return flights daily between Dublin and Kent International Airport - a third daily flight is to be added tomorrow. Passenger numbers on the route are described as 'on target'.
