Dell has selected Ireland as the location for a new server support centre for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Limerick will be the location for the newly established EMEA Enterprise Command Centre (ECC), which will provide support for server and storage customers in the EMEA.
It also announced that it is to provide additional services from its centre in Cherrywood, Co Dublin and in its Limerick-based Application Solution Centre.
'The expansion of services is another example of Dell's on-going commitment to provide the level of support that our enterprise customers demand,' said Tom Kitt, services operations director for Dell EMEA.
'Ireland is already a key provider of advanced enterprise services but today's announcements further reinforce the importance of Ireland as a strategic location for higher value add functions.'
Dell has been in Ireland since 1990 and is a major technology exporter, accounting for 5.8% of Ireland's GDP and 7.8% of its exports in 2002.
According to the latest figures from IDC, growth in server sales in Western Europe increased for the fourth consecutive quarter. Overall revenue from server sales increased by 10.2% from $2.99 billion in the second quarter of 2003 to $3.29 billion in 2004.
IBM was the top server vendor in the market for the quarter, followed by HP, Sun Microsystems and Fujitsu-Siemens and Dell. Dell which recorded a 36% growth in server sales over the period from €160.5 million in the second quarter of 2003 to €218.3 million in 2004.
