Ryanair is to double the size of its base at Rome Ciampino to four based aircraft, representing an investment of $120m. The airline also announced five new European routes from Rome Ciampino to Dusseldorf Niederrhein in Germany, Valencia in Spain and Nottingham East Midlands, Liverpool and Teeside in the UK.

Ryanair began flying from Ciampino in April 2002 and has 12 international routes operating from the base. The new routes will start in January and February of next year.

A new daily route from Girona to Dusseldorf-Niederrhein will also commence on November 8.

The airline today also announced another seat sale with three million seats on offer with passengers just paying taxes for the flight.

This latest sale is available for booking across the airline's European network from Thursday September 9 to midnight Monday September 13.

Travel is allowed from September 23 to February 20 with the exception of the 10 tens between October 21 to 31 and from December 18 to January 5.
