A weekend newspaper report has suggested that US sports tycoon Malcolm Glazer will try to buy the 28.9% stake in Manchester United held by Irish investors John Magnier and JP McManus.
Glazer, who owns American football team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has built up a stake of just over 19% in the club.
Members of Glazer's family were planning to meet Magnier and McManus on Tuesday to discuss the possible sale, the Sunday Telegraph said, citing an executive close to Glazer. The Irish investors' 28.9% stake is held through their Cubic Expression vehicle.
United has been the subject of persistent bid speculation since the two biggest shareholders - Cubic Expression and Glazer - began building up their stakes in recent months.
A spokeswoman for Cubic Expression said they had no comment to make on the recent speculation about Glazer.
