The Irish Payment Services Organisation has confirmed that 80 bank branches are at risk of running out of cash due to the dispute at security firm Brinks Allied. The dispute is now in its second week.
Workers, who operate security vans used to transport money, are on strike over new security procedures introduced by the company. They say these new procedures puts them at greater risk.
160 non-branch ATMs are now out of cash, including cash points at Dublin airport.
There is still little sign of progress in getting the dispute resolved. SIPTU said today that management at Brinks was not prepared to go to the Labour Court, but a Brinks spokesman said the company wasnted more talks at local level before seeking a Labour Court hearing.
Yesterday workers at Brinks rejected a proposal by two to one to end the dispute at the company.
So far, only cash points in the Eastern Region have been hit by this dispute, but there are fears that a prolonged strike will impact other parts of the country.
