The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) is seeking applications from groups interested in winning contracts to produce television programmes. The contracts would be awarded for satellite and cable programmes, as well as for local and community content.

The commission has also published its approach to the licensing of services, the procedures involved in the award of contracts and the terms and conditions under which contractors may expect to operate.

'We are delighted to commence the process for the introduction of additional television services,' said Michael O'Keeffe, chief executive of the BCI.

'We hope that any new contracts awarded under these provisions will add to the diversity of programmes currently available and will provide added choice for television viewers in Ireland,' he added.

The television licensing policy is available from the commission's offices or website. Applications for contracts will be available from Monday, July 26.
