'No argument' for UK rates rise

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee voted 9-0 to keep interest rates unchanged at 4.5% earlier this month, minutes of its July meeting published this morning showed.

The minutes said that there had been little significant economic news on the month and the world economy remained on track. 'There was no argument for a third successive rise,' the minutes said.

The MPC decision to keep rates pegged had been widely anticipated after it had raised rates by a quarter-point for two straight months in May and June. Most analysts expect another hike in August.
