Aidan Cotter has been appointed new chief executive of Bord Bia replacing Michael Duffy who announced he was stepping down last month to take up a post with the RDS.
Cotter is currently director of operations in Bord Bia.
He previously served as the organisation's European Director, based in its London office, and prior to that in Dusseldorf.
Cotter holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management in the UK and has Masters degrees in Economic Science and Agricultural Economics from University College, Dublin.
Bord Bia chairman Philip Lynch said: "Aidan has significant knowledge and expertise of food and drink markets, gained from some twelve years of experience working in overseas markets.
"Aidan will build further on the organisational strengths of Bord Bia developed over the last ten years preparing it for the next stage of its development."
Bord Bia is the trade development and promotion organisation for the food and drink industry. It operates a quality assurance scheme for beef, pork, bacon, chicken and egg products. The Bord recently merged with the horticultural board, Bord Glas.
