Britain's annual rate of inflation rose to its highest level in more than a year in June, according to official figures.
The rate was 1.6% last month from 1.5% in May, though prices fell by 0.1% in the month.
The annual rate is well below the Bank of England's 2% target, but may add to its view that interest rates need to rise to keep inflation in check.
The Office for National Statistics said prices of furniture and household products rose as retailers offered fewer discounts, while petrol prices fell slightly, but not by as much as in June 2003.
