167 jobs are to go at a printing company in north county Dublin. Modus Media is to close its plant in Clonshaugh. A spokesman for the company said the plant, which manufactures manuals for the computer industry, is no longer sustainable.
Modus Media is part of Modus Media International, which says the closure is due to the downturn in the print market, particularly in the technical sector. It also blamed the increase in the use of CD roms over print manuals.
A spokesman for SIPTU said the union was notified this afternoon that management was holding a meeting with all staff at 1.30 this afternoon, during which they announced that the plant was closing down. SIPTU is seeking an immediate meeting the group of unions at the company as soon as possible.
Modus Media also has facilities in Limerick and Kildare, which employ 450 workers. These will not be affected by this afternoon's announcement.
