The number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Ireland dipped slightly to a seasonally adjusted 167,000 in June from 168,000 in May, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office. This is the lowest figure since December 2002.

The unadjusted figure rose by 6,980 to 168,952, reflecting increases in all regions, with the biggest coming in the Mid-West and West.

The standardised unemployment stood at 4.3%, unchanged from the previous month.
