At least 20 jobs are to go at Braun, the hair care manufacturing plant in Carlow, by the end of the summer. Braun currently has a workforce of 650.
The job losses are to be made in the managerial, technical and clerical divisions of the company, which was last week threatened with an all-out strike in a row over pay and working conditions.
But agreement was reached following lengthy negotiations which saw employees securing a pay rise. Up to 400 of 650 industrial grade employees had been involved in a month long work-to-rule and an overtime ban.
Company management warned that the proposed action would put future investment as well as jobs at the plant in jeopardy. Meetings have taken place between management and SIPTU at the plant this week, and it is hoped that the redundancies will be voluntary.
It remains unclear as to why the job losses are being sought. Further meetings over the jobs situation at the plant are to take place over the next several weeks.
