Talks on the future of Aer Rianta are taking place alongside the re-convened pay talks at Government Buildings.
It is understood that the breakup of the airport authority was discussed at Cabinet yesterday and it was decided that Transport Minister Seamus Brennan should resume consultations with the trade unions.
A Government spokesperson said the Government is still keen to get the Aer Rianta legislation through by the end of July.
The spokesperson said that, as yet, there has been no intervention by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern at the pay talks where little progress has been reported.
Meanwhile, a union negotiator has confirmed that the Aer Rianta issue has created a log jam in the talks process, saying there could be no pay deal unless the Aer Rianta row is resolved.
Acting TWGU General Secretary Eamon Devoy also described recent comments by Tanaiste Mary Harney calling for firm decisions to be taken even if unpopular as 'unhelpful'.
He said that if the Government was not prepared to honour its commitments regarding Aer Rianta the broader trade union movement would find it difficult to do business with this Government.
