ESB International has won an E8.8m contract to manage Kosovo's electricity industry KEK, beating off competition from US, UK and German consortia.
The contract is sponsored by the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). KEK is currently held under UNMIK's custodianship through the Kosovo Trust Agency.
As management contractor, ESBI will be supported by its subcontractors TSI/ESKOM of South Africa and Vattenfall Europe.
ESB chief executive Padraig McManus said the deal added to ESBI's reputation in the Balkans. It has already secured contracts in Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia & Montenegro.
ESBI will oversee KEK's operations for an initial two-year period. KEK is involved in electricity generation, transmission, distribution and supply.
