Brian Goggin was last night named as Bank of Ireland's new chief executive.

Mr Goggin is a career banker who has been involved in the bank's retail and wholesale businesses, both in Ireland and in the US. He is currently head of asset management and an executive director of the bank.

He replaces Mike Soden, who resigned last week after he admitted gaining access to adult sites on his office computer.
