Woodie's to spend €10m on expansion

Woodie's DIY and Garden Centres is planning to open five new stores in a €10m expansion plan. This will bring its total nationwide to 23.

A new store is due to open in Turner's Cross in Cork by Spring 2005. Naas and Bray will have new Woodie's stores by next summer, while Kilkenny will follow in October, 2005. A planning proposal has also been submitted to Meath County Council for a new store in Navan.

The DIY chain also opened its new flagship superstore on Dublin's Naas Road - its 18th store - this morning. 60 people will be employed here.

'The DIY sector in Ireland is buoyant and as the market leader in this sector we are well positioned to capitalise on the growth which is taking place in the market,' commented Woodie's Chief Executive Ray Colman.

'Through the growth in our nationwide network we are introducing new synergies in our business and we are delivering more value for money and greater choice to our growing customer base,' he added.
