Up to 100 participants in a joint initiative by the Northside Partnership will take up jobs at a new Tesco store in Dublin's Northside.
The Northside Partnership is working with Tesco Ireland, Fas and Mandate to ensure that participants complete a training programme, which will result in FETAC accreditation in the form of a Retail Sector National Skills Certificate and a job at Tesco.
Tesco Ireland has allocated 100 of the 350 jobs at its new Clare Hall outlet to assist long term unemployed individuals in the area to re-integrate themselves into the workforce. The new outlet is due to open on 19 July.
Fiona Nolan of the Northside Partnership stressed the importance of the development ' in an area of Dublin where a level of 16% unemployment currently prevails, compared to the national average of 4.4%'.
' I hope that other employers, both in retail and other sectors, planning to recruit on the North side of Dublin in the future will mirror the Tesco model and play their part in reducing the number of people on the live register,' she added.
