Euro knocks Pernod Ricard sales

Drinks group Pernod Ricard, which owns Irish Distillers, has reported a drop in wine and spirits sales to €704m for the first quarter of this year compared with €713m in the same period last year.

The company said sales were 5% higher, however, when currency effects and disposals were stripped out. The stronger euro knocked 5% off the figures.

Jameson enjoyed one of the highest growth rates at 14%.

The strongest sales growth came in the Asian and North American markets. Pernod Ricard said Europe was mixed, with only modest growth in Ireland.
