Knock International Airport saw Passenger numbers increase by 55% to 52,600 for the first quarter of 2004, compared to 33,850 in the same period last year.
Liam Scollan, CEO of Knock Airport, said that the airport aims to build on the success of last year which saw a record 250,000 passengers passing through the airport.
Looking ahead he was optimistic: 'Based on our first quarter passenger numbers, are confident that we will achieve in excess of 400,000 passengers, an increase of 60%, this year.'
During the first three months of 2004 two new daily routes, to Manchester and Glasgow. A new daily route to Nottingham East Midlands is set to commence on Friday, 30th April.
The Minister for Transport, Mr Seamus Brennan TD, officially opened the new €2m departures and retail area in February, and the new €1 million Arrivals Area is due for completion during the second quarter of 2004.
Also during the period Knock announced Western Development Commission (WDC) funding of €317,000 towards the strategic development of the Airport.
