Merck & Co has launched a new subsidiary, Merck Sharp & Dohme Ireland (Human Health) Ltd, which will create over 80 new jobs within the next five years at its new Dublin headquarters.
The new company will conduct clinical research, regulatory affairs and marketing support for Merck in Europe and manage sales and marketing for the Irish market. The IDA supported project involves an investment of €5m over the next 12 months. The new jobs will be at graduate level.
Merck & Co operates a manufacturing facility in Ballydine, Co Tipperary which was opened in 1976 and currently employs 450 people.
'This is an ideal example of the kind of knowledge-based investment IDA is seeking to attract here as it adds high value activities to an existing Irish operation and further enhances the value of that operation to the parent company,' commented Mary Harney, the Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
