Britain's economy expanded by 0.9% in the fourth quarter of last year, official data showed this morning. This was the best performance since the first quarter of 2000.
The Office for National Statistics nudged its estimate of the annual growth rate in the quarter down to 2.7% from the 2.8% it estimated last month.
It also revised down full-year growth for last year to 2.2% from 2.3%, still the best performance since 2000 and well above most other major economies.
The ONS also reported a better than expected current account deficit. The gap narrowed to £5.228 billion from a downwardly revised third quarter shortfall of £6.28 billion.
