Mersey says Dublin arm strong

The Mersey Docks and Harbour Company, Britain's second largest ports operator, met forecasts this morning with a 1% rise in underlying annual profits last year.

The operator of the Port of Liverpool, which handles about a quarter of the container traffic between Britain and North America, had pre-tax profits before goodwill amortisation of £55.2m last year. Sales rose 8.9% to £297.4m helped by more containers through its ports in the second half.

Units handled by its Marine Terminals division in Dublin rose by 23.6% to 136,000. Mersey said its Dublin container storage and repair facility DCATS also performed strongly. The company said it expected further improvements at its Dublin operations this year.
