Irish exports to countries outside the EU fell to €2,332 in January from €2,931 in December, according to seasonally adjusted figures from the Central Statistics Office. Imports also dropped, from €1,587 to €1,442.
Exports fell by 22% in January compared with the same month last year, with big drops in the chemicals and medical & pharmaceutical sectors. Exports to the US were down 42% in the year, but exports to Singapore jumped by nearly 80%.
Imports were 4% lower compared with January last year, with a 60% drop in medical and pharmaceutical imports. The category covering aviation showed a big increase. Imports from China were up 20%.
