Aer Rianta unions to down tools on March 18

The industrial action committee of Aer Rianta has outlined plans for a series of work stoppages.

The action is being taken because of what the committee says has been the failure of Transport Minister Seamus Brennan to engage in meaningful talks with workers on the break up and future of the company's three airports.

Following a meeting in Shannon this afternoon, Michael Halpenny, SIPTU's national industrial secretary, confirms there would be a six hour work stoppage beginning at 7.30am at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports on Thursday March 18 followed by limited stoppages on three days on April, 2, 20 and 26.

He said the action was aimed at disrupting the EU Presidency programme and not at inconveniencing the ordinary members of the travelling public.
