75 jobs are to be created at a new financial services centre in Spiddal in Co Galway.
The annoucement was made this morning by Marsh Ireland, a subsidiary of a leading US risk and insurances services company. Marsh already employs 500 workers at eight locations in Ireland.
The Spiddal telesales and claims centre will be the company's first office to be located in a Gaeltacht area. It will be officially opened later today by the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon O Cuív, TD.
The company's parent firm Marsh employs 55,000 people in 100 countries. The announcement has been welcomed by Udaras na Gaeltachta.
Chief Executive Ruán O Bric said: 'I am delighted we were able to assist Marsh Ireland to expand their operations and set up here in the Connemara Gaeltacht. These modern services jobs will enable the Gaeltacht community to gain quality employment in sectors which were not previously available to them in their own area.'
'This marks a new departure for Udarás na Gaeltachta and we are hopeful that Marsh Ireland are blazing a trail for other such businesses throughout the Gaeltacht,' he added.
