Irish Life & Permanent has issued a statement saying that neither the company, nor anyone acting on its behalf, has been involved in any talks with representatives with Halifax Bank of Scotland or anyone acting on its behalf.
A story in Sunday Independent had said IL&P was in talks with HBOS about a takeover.
IL&P said that while it did not usually comment on what it called speculative stories, the talks report was untrue.
