Yahoo may dump google's search services

Yahoo is expected to dump Google as the primary search technology on its site, as part of an assault on Google's dominance in web navigation.

The company may switch to its own technology as early as the first quarter. This means the switch could occur as Google prepares for its long awaited initial stock offering, which is expected to occur early this year.

Yahoo aims not just to replicate Google but to add new features. It wants to combine personalisation and customisation features and it plans to expand its use of "paid inclusion", whereby businesses pay to be included in a search engine's listings in greater detail.
