New car licences show 16% drop

There was a decrease of 15.9% in the number of new cars licensed in November 2003 compared with November 2002, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office today.

Between January and November of 2003 there were 4.5% fewer cars licensed than in the corresponding period for 2002.

New goods vehicles licensed decreased by 14.2% in November 2003 when compared with November 2002, and increased by 8.5% in the period January to November 2003 over with the same period last year.

In the period January-November 2003, the total number of all vehicles licensed was 1.1% lower than in the same period last year.

The highest number of new private cars licensed in November classified by make are Opel, followed by Toyota, Volkswagen, Ford, Nissan  and Renault.
