Ryanair has said it will restart flights between Strasbourg and London if its appeal in a French court succeeds before the end of the year.
The case concerns payments by authorities in Strasbourg to Ryanair to attract visitors to the region of eastern France. Earlier this year, a lower court found that the payments represented an improper use of public funds.
Nancy's Court of Appeal said earlier this month that it would rule on the case before the end of this year. At a hearing, a government commissioner, responsible for speaking on points of law but whose view is not necessarily followed by the judges, said that the court was not competent to hear the case, should reject the previous finding and send the case to a higher court.
Ryanair had switched its flights from Strasbourg to Baden-Baden nearby in Germany after the original ruling, but now says it will resume flights to Strasbourg on January 29 if the ruling goes its way.
