Musgrave to buy Britain's Londis

Food distribution and retail group Musgrave has announced plans to buy the Londis group of stores in England, Scotland and Wales for €57m.

The proposed deal, which does not include Ireland, involves nearly 2,000 members with 2,200 stores.

The offer has been accepted by the Londis board, and is subject to the approval of shareholders at an EGM on December 30.

If the deal goes through, the Londis name will be kept alongside that of Budgens, which Musgrave already owns. Musgrave says there will be purchasing, development and other savings between the companies.
