United Drug announces 16% turnover rise

United Drug, the leading pharmaceutical wholesaler in Ireland, has announced a 16% rise in turnover to €1.13 billion for the year ended September 30 2003.

The group said said full year profits rose 24%, boosted by a number of acquisitions over the past year.

Pre-tax profit before exceptionals rose to €35m in the 12 months to September from €28.3m in the same period a year earlier and the dividend was raised by 15% to €4.11 per share.

Chief executive Liam Fitzgerald was confident: '2003 has been another year of significant development for United Drug,' he said.

Acquisitions of New Splint, Intraveno and Mantis Surgical contributed to the medical and scientific division's performance. United Drug said in a statement today that the company will be growing the company with further strategic acqusitions.

United Drug provides a wholesale service to over 1,000 retail pharmacies and 200 hospitals in the Ireland.
