Oil company Shell is hopeful that it will be able to resubmit a planning application for its Corrib gas field processing station in County Mayo by the end of the year, according to a spokesman for the company.
The initial planning application for the processing station at Bellanaboy was rejected by An Bord Pleanala in April because of concerns that peat excavated from the site posed a risk to health and safety of the local community.
Shell, formerly known as Enterprise Energy Ireland, has reached an outline agreement with Bord na Mona for the removal of the peat to an alternative location 11km away.
The Bellanaboy site is just over 3km away from the location of a major peat landslide in September.
