Former Garda Commission Pat Byrne is to chair the new National Taxi Council launched today by Transport Minister Seamus Brennan today.
The council will advise the Minister and the new national taxi regulator on issues such as quality standards, age of vehicles, safety, entry standards and a standard colour for taxis.
The council, which has 18 members, met for the first time today. It includes representatives of taxi drivers, tourism and consumer groups.
