Six want to build new power plant

The Commission for Energy Regulation has received six bidders for the competition it is running for new independent generating plants with a capacity of around 2,000 megawatts.

The winner or winners can secure contracts with ESB for a total of 3,400 megawatts over a maximum 10-year period, potentially worth over €1.4 billion.

Bidders are competing on the basis of price, after having met a number of technical, financial and regulatory requirements.

CER expects to notify preferred bidders by November 10, with the winner or winners being announced and contracts signed by December 1.
