Bank of Ireland has confirmed it's to close 36 of branches of its Bristol and West subsidiary in the UK.
A spokesperson for the bank said the decision is part of its ongoing review of operations in the UK announced last month. No figure could be given for the number of redundancies that might arise from the closures.
Just under 4,000 staff are employed in Bristol and West. After this round of closures its branch network will be reduced from 131 to 95. The branches which are to close have not yet been identified. Bank of Ireland has already set aside €35m for the restructuring of its UK businesses.
Earlier this week Bank of Ireland announced a joint venture with the Post Office in the UK to supply financial products.
