The Revenue has published a list of over 400 tax defaulters, including Fianna Fail TD for Limerick West Michael Collins.
The list shows that Mr Collins settled with the Revenue for a total of €130,602. This included €32,000 in tax due as a result of athe non-declaration of income tax and VAT as well as tax due on income in a bogus non-resident account owned by the TD. In addition the total includes €98,601 that Mr Collins had to pay in interest and penalties.
Today's list of tax defaulters is the largest such list published by the Revenue and is dominated by holders of bogus non-resident accounts with whom the Revenue has settled. The total value of the settlements is just under €37m, with holders on bogus non-resident accounts accounting for €30m.
More than a quarter of the people on the list were farmers, while nearly half were from Munster. The list also includes some settlements which came from investigations into Ansbacher and NIB offshore accounts.
