Strong growth for Dell in Q2

Computer maker Dell has reported a 24% rise in net profits for its second quarter to August 1.

Profits in the period were $621m, while earnings per share were 24 cent, compared with 19 cent in the same period a year earlier.

Revenue grew by 16% to $9.8 billion, driven by strong growth in servers and storage systems. Total shipments were up 27% and there was particularly strong growth in China.

The company said it expected further growth in the third quarter, leading to record revenue of $10.5 billion.
