Insurance moves spark FBD cuts

Insurance group FBD has announced a range of premium reductions for its insurance products, including motor, household, farming and retail businesses.

The company says it is passing on the benefits of an improved claims environment. The changes come into effect immediately.

Car insurance premiums for all policyholders are to be cut by 5%, following a similar reduction earlier this year.

Home insurance and farm property rates are being lowered by 10%, while FBD says shops, pubs and other retail outlets will see their property rates comes down by 7.5%.

FBD's director of insurance Martin Moran says a focus by the industry and Government on what he called the unacceptable claims culture had already made an impact, particularly on motor and property insurance.

But he said liability insurance was still a problem, though there were some signs of improvement.

Mr Moran said there were 'good grounds' to be confident of further reductions in premiums in the months and years ahead.
