Boston Scientific to add Galway jobs

Medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific has confirmed plans to significantly increase staff numbers at its plant in Galway.

In a statement today the company said 1,200 new jobs were being created between Galway and a US plant, for the production of a new treatment for clogged arteries.

A spokeswoman for Boston Scientific could give no indication of how many of the 1,200 jobs would go to Galway, nor of the time frame for the expansion.

Boston already employs almost 3,000 people in manufacturing sites in Galway, Cork, Tullamore and Letterkenny.

Noel Fogarty, vice president of operations at Boston Scientific Galway, said the launch of the new product, called TAXUS, was good news and would mean that new employees would be added this year.
