First Active shareholders' windfall due

First Active has sent out the capital payment agreed earlier this year to shareholders. Shareholders should receive payment by early next week.

The €160m, which equals €1.12 per existing ordinary share, is being distributed as a separate payment along with their final dividend payments. Shareholders will receive the payment in the same way as they receive their dividend.

First Active said that typically, shareholders who own 495 ordinary shares will receive €554.40 and shareholders with 990 shares will receive €1,108.80.

First Active warns that capital gains tax may apply to the money received. However, it points out that if a shareholder has 990 shares or less, as almost 95% of them do, and they have no other capital gains in the year, the repayment will more than likely fall within the annual personal capital gains exemption of €1,270.
