April car registrations up 7.4%

The number of new cars licensed in April rose to 18,494, an increase of 1,279 or 7.4% on the same month last year, according to the latest Central Statistics Office figures.

Over 74,300 new private cars were licensed in the first four months of 2003, an increase of 2.1% on the same period in 2002.

New goods vehicles licensed decreased by 93 (-2.9%) in April 2003 when compared with April 2002.

In the period from January to April 2003, the total number of vehicles licensed was 101,518, an increase of 3% on the same period last year.

The highest number of new private cars licensed in April classified by make are Ford, followed by Toyota, Nissan, and Volkswagen.
