SuperValu has announced a 9% increase in retail sales to €1.55 billion for 2002. The supermarket group also today announced plans to invest €130m in store development and said it will open up to 12 new supermarkets in the next 12 months.
SuperValu said the new stores will be located at centres including Ratoath, Co Meath, Cavan town, Buncrana, Co Donegal and Aston Quay in Dublin. The chain said the new stores will add €70m in retail turnover in the coming year.
The announcements were made at the company's annual conference in Killarney today. SuperValu also announced that it plans further development in its own brand range with about €1.5m to be invested in the redevelopment of the own-brand range and the introduction of 70 new products.
Valued at €165m, own-brand retail sales currently account for over 10% of the group's annual retail sales. Over 1,000 products are produced and marketed under the SuperValu name.
The company also outlined its commitment to retain professional butchers in its stores at today's conference.
