Dr Michael Smurfit is to retire from his position as chairman and director of US packaging company Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. He will step down from the date of the company's annual meeting on May 8.
Smurfit-Stone's CEO Pat Moore will succeed Dr Smurfit as chairman. Dermot Smurfit, Anthony Smurfit and Howard Kilroy will also retire from the board from May 8.
The retiring directors are all current or former director of Jefferson Smurfit Group. The Irish company's stake in SSCC was spun off as part of the Madison Dearborn Partners buy-out of the Smurfit Group.
