There were 4,613 days lost due to industrial disputes during the third quarter of 2002, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office today. This compares to 3,810 days lost in the same time last year.
The 11 disputes in progress in the third quarter of 2002 involved 1,021 workers. The manufacturing sector (52%) and the health and social work sector (23%) are the sectors most affected in terms of days lost.
The CSO said that in the first nine months of 2002 there were 17,902 days lost due to industrial disputes. This compares to 113,943 for the first nine months of last year.
The figure for this year remains significantly lower than that for last year even if one allows for the impact the teachers' dispute had on last year's figure.
