Trend Technologies to close - 121 jobs lost

The receiver of Trend Technologies Europe has declared a phased closure commencing with immediate effect resulting in the loss of 121 jobs in Clondalkin, Dublin.

Today's evening shift of 26 workers are to have their jobs terminated with 30 further redundancies tomorrow and the remainder on December 20, 2002.

The TEEU has said that it has worked hard to maintain the business and continuity of employment over a period of time and has gone through a period of lay-off and short time coupled with a pay freeze, however, this closure now appears inevitable.

With regard to redundancy payments, the union fears that it could be February before people will receive any money.

The company said the closure of the plant was due to the transfer of assembly work to lower wage economies abroad.
